World Social Security Forum 2010
The global financial and economic crisis has reaffirmed the key contribution of social security to social stability and economic recovery. The World Social Security Forum will provide a unique opportunity for over 1,000 decision-makers from all regions to share knowledge, recognize good practices and discuss key challenges and innovative strategies for Dynamic Social Security.

The World Social Security Forum and the 30th ISSA General Assembly will be hosted by the Department of Social Development of the Republic of South Africa.
FORUM SESSIONS
Statutory bodies
The 30th ISSA General Assembly, and meetings of the Bureau and the Council, will take place during the World Social Security Forum.
Developments and trends in social security
The session will feature a report prepared by the ISSA presenting a panorama of important developments in social security, and will examine trends shaping social security schemes today.
Demographic challenges
The demographic challenge is one of the most pressing issues facing social security institutions worldwide. A plenary, followed by concurrent interactive sessions, will showcase the innovative approaches, good practice solutions and lessons learned identified by the ISSA Technical Commissions.
Governance and management
Good governance and management are essential for the effective performance of social security and the efficient delivery of programmes to insured persons. At this session, to reinforce the capacity of member organizations in this area, the ISSA will launch guidelines on governance principles for social security institutions.
Extension of social security coverage
The extension of coverage is conceivably the greatest challenge for social security today. The session will feature an overview of the ILO’s activities in this area, present the ISSA strategy as developed by the Task Force on the extension of coverage and will analyze the specific role and scope of social security institutions in extending coverage.
Focus on Africa
Organized by the Department of Social Development of the Republic of South Africa, the session will present a range of perspectives from the various sub-regions of Africa to highlight the key contribution of social security to regional development and to the Millennium Development Goals in the context of the economic crisis.
Social Security Summit
The Summit, composed of Ministers and representatives of international organizations, will discuss the need for a global commitment to Dynamic Social Security as a key instrument for social stability and economic development.
