Professor Katz joined the SPRC in January 2005. He has had many years of
policy, practice and research experience in children and family services in the
UK. He started his career as a social worker and manager, working in several
local authorities and NGOs in London. He was head of Evaluation, Practice
development and Research at the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty
to Children. After spending some time as a civil servant in the Department for
Education and Skills, he returned to research to become Deputy Director of the
Policy Research Bureau. His research experience covers a wide range of issues
relating to children and families and includes child protection, youth justice,
prevention and family support, children, families and communities, children of
parents with mental illness, comparative child welfare systems, race and
ethnicity and adoption. He was an investigator on the National Evaluation of
Sure Start, and the Overarching Evaluation of the Parenting Fund, and is
currently Chief Investigator of the National Evaluation of the Stronger Families
and Communities Strategy and of the NSW DoCS Early Intervention Program. 【研究领域 Research Interests】
