Jim Midgley on Globalization and Social Development:
Social Work and social policy scholars have historically been preoccupied with domestic activities, and it is only in recent times that efforts to enhance international awareness within these fields have gained widespread support. There is a growing acceptance today of the importance of understanding international events, learning from social welfare policies and programs in other societies, and collaborating with colleagues in other parts of the world. Instead of comprising a distinct "specialization" within social work and social policy, an international perspective is gradually being integrated into the mainstream and will, hopefully, become commonplace.
